Objective
The Swim4Brains Foundation aims to create and increase awareness for people with acquired brain injuries (ABI) and to raise funds for research, prevention, recovery, and social support. The foundation achieves this by organising athletic swimming events and related activities, the proceeds of which are donated to organisations with a similar objective, including the Dutch Brain Foundation (Hersenstichting).
Key Policy Plan Outline
The foundation organises the annual Swim4Brains event. The key principles are transparency, minimal organisational costs, maximum allocation of donations to the cause, safety for participants and volunteers, and sustainable collaboration with partners. The policy plan is periodically evaluated and updated where necessary. The current version can be downloaded at the bottom of this page.
Board โ Roles and Names
The Foundation is managed by a board responsible for policy, execution, and oversight of the activities. The board consists of three members:
Chairman: Sander Pluijm
Treasurer: Peter Nieuwland
Secretary: Bas Vredenburg
Remuneration Policy
Board members receive no remuneration for their activities. They may only receive reimbursement for reasonable and demonstrable expenses incurred, in accordance with the internal regulations.
Report of Activities Conducted
The core activity of the foundation is organising the annual Swim4Brains swimming event, including the recruitment of participants and sponsors, training sessions and workshops, safety coordination, communication, and accountability to donors and partners. An activity report is published on the website annually.
Financial Accountability
The Swim4Brains Foundation publishes an annual financial statement with explanatory notes on income, expenditure, and the allocation of proceeds. The foundation maintains a strict anti-overhead policy: sponsorship funds are entirely spent on the objective. Registration fees are solely used for event and organisational costs.
